How to improve SEO without spending money

There is no doubt that being on top of SEO is a difficult task, but it doesn't mean that it is impossible and expensive! Time and effort plays a major role in achieving this goal and down below will be a few tips and tricks to improve your search engine.

Before you want to begin, you will have to develop a strategy. What are the keywords that are related to what you are selling and what your consumers are looking for? You can find popular keywords on GoogleTrends which will help better optimize your SEO.

Secondly, you will want to create at last 1 quality blog post a week for your website. This will create more exposure and shares but make sure content quality is maintained to drive traffic, Google search rankings, engagement or conversions! Adding diagrams and photos to your blogs can make your blog look more professional which can be done for free using Canva or any other graphic designing platform.

Thirdly, cleaning out all your spam backlinks is crucial if you want to maintain your top SEO position.

In 2012, Google introduced Penguin which is an algorithm update that penalises any websites that have multiple link buildings from low-quality or irrelevant websites. Google introduced this to have high-quality websites to be on the top of SEO making it more relevant for browsers.

Lastly, ensure that your website’s loading time is fast and is mobile user friendly. According to Neil Patel, 40% of customers abandon a website that takes more than 3 seconds to load. A delay in a loading site whether it is on mobile or desktop will negatively impact search engine rankings and revenue. To test out your website speed, you can go on Pingdom to monitor your websites performance and interactions for the better end-user experience.

In saying this, there is much controversy about Google SEO. Some people say it is dead and others argue is evolving. What are your thoughts on this?

Great blog, it's interesting how when we search for something on google we never look at the next page, we only look at the first link or the second, but if that doesn't have the answer we're looking for only then do we look at the other sources available. Therefore, I think that SEO practice is important for business and it'll always be relevant. The business should aim to be one of the first links to come up when consumers are looking for their product.

Wow, great post! I personally agree with one of the points you made regarding customers abandoning a website if it takes 3 seconds to load. Personally, I do that too sometimes if I am trying to find information on Google because I'm trying to obtain my information quick and if does website takes forever to load, I usually just click the back button and go to a different website to find what I need.

@Rebecca Allaoui good point! Nowadays we have shifted towards white hat techniques rather black hat and it has helped consumers have a better end-user experience as well as encouraging businesses to create quality content. Organic searches are generally more appealing and rewarding than paid advertising.

Great tips! I believe that if SEO is done right it can definitely evolve and be used in a very positive and effective way for the business. The white hat techniques used by businesses can really improve the business's online presence as they focus on user experience as well as quality content. I think this will ultimately outshine paid advertising as it is what consumers are looking for. As Google is where most people go when they are searching for something I definitely don't think SEO has died.

@Cloe Mckenzie Glad you still think it is still an effective tool! PPC is linked to SEO and can actually improve it. Of course, this is just one of Google's scheme to make money, but if it is benefiting larger companies then I don't see why it should be a problem!

@Vincent Lo It is stated that Google updates its SEO daily and rolls out almost a thousand algorithm updates a year!! It is super important to follow them on Twitter and follow their updates if there is any major changes like they did with the Panda and Penguin so that you won't be hit with a loss - that is if you are serious about your Google ranking :)
